Looking for unique things to do in Las Vegas? Well, things can’t get any more unique than this: the Minus 5 Icebar.
This indoor bar in the middle of the Mojave desert is kept at below-freezing temperatures all the time. Don’t worry, they provide all the gear to keep you warm inside.
And yet, despite the chilled temperature, it’s still one of the hottest must-see attractions in Las Vegas. After all, where else can you have a drink on a bar or table that’s carved out of ice? Guests are also surrounded by gorgeous ice sculptures that never melt.
You’ll never experience anything else like it. To learn more about why Minus5 ICEBAR belongs on your bucket list, read on.
Won’t I Be Too Cold?
“Ice sculptures are neat and all, but won’t it be too cold to hang out in there?”
This is one of the most common comments we hear when people first learn about Minus5 ICEBAR. And the answer is, “No, it won’t.”
Because there is no wind and no humidity, it’s a truly refreshing environment. As we mentioned, gloves and a coat are required while inside the bar. Not only that, but they’re also provided, included in the ticket price. All guests are given gloves and a parka upon entry.
Still, if you’re concerned about the below-freezing temperature, you’re welcome to bring more layers of clothing with you.
Las Vegas Is Too Hot, Anyway
Besides, if you’re visiting Las Vegas in the summer, you’re already looking for ways to beat the heat, anyway. The average high temperature of each Las Vegas summer day is 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
You’ll be overjoyed to get out of the sweltering desert sun and into a refreshing winter wonderland. If anything, you’ll be reluctant to ever leave.
I Guess I Can’t Bring My Kids to a Bar, Huh?
This is another common question we get. And, once again, this assumption is incorrect.
Kids ages 12 and up are welcome to enter and enjoy the sights and atmosphere of the Minus 5 Icebar before 9 pm. Depending on the package you purchase, your kids can even enjoy a non-alcoholic beverage and take home souvenir hats.
What Are the Ticket Prices and What Do They Include?
The current ticket prices start at $13 for kids 12-16 (Kids Cool Experience) and $24 for adults (Cool Experience). These introductory packages include entry, gloves, and a parka to wear inside.
The Coolest Experience package upgrades the adult tickets to include 2 ice cocktails for $49 total. The V-Ice-P Experience for $75 adds a souvenir hat and digital photo to the Coolest Experience package. Finally, The Kids V-Ice-P Experience ($29) also comes with a souvenir hat and 1 ice “mocktail,” a non-alcoholic beverage.
The Ice Is Beautiful
Don’t forget now, drinks and gloves aren’t the only things you get with the price of admission. The real treat is the gorgeous, one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
All the furniture, even the bar itself, is made of crystal-clear ice. If you were picturing white, snowy igloo bricks, forget it.
It looks like a world of beautiful, hand-crafted glass. Only, it’s made even more magical knowing that it’s not actually glass, but ice.
If the temperature ever rose 20 degrees, it would all cease to exist—temporary, yet permanent. There’s nothing quite like it. It’s truly a sight to behold.
Music and a colorful LED light show are also provided for your entertainment.
It’s the Largest Ice Bar in the World.
The Minus5 ICEBAR (Mandalay Bay Location) is now expanded to 5,400 square feet total, the largest ice bar in the world. The interior is made from more than 100 tons of ice, masterfully crafted by artisan ice carvers.
They’ve spared no expense to keep it from melting, either. A cutting-edge temperature monitoring system maintains the ideal temperature despite the fluctuating number of warm bodies in the room.
Still, that’s not all the work that goes into it. With all the effort and technology invested in keeping the ice pristine, it still won’t last perfectly.
The ice is brittle, easily scratched, and can develop a droopy appearance over time. Occasionally, the ice needs to be touched up. Eventually, some sections may even need replacing.
What Drinks Are Available?
Regardless of the unique ambiance, the Minus5 ICEBAR is a full bar like any other. Order any cocktail you like and the bartender will serve you the coldest version of it that you’ve ever had. To be more specific, the “glass” is actually made of ice, too!
Still, we have our own selection of specialty drinks, including our particular version of some of your rum/vodka-based favorites. See our featured drink menu here.
Besides any drinks included with your ticket, additional alcoholic drinks start at $12, non-alcoholic drinks at $5. Shots are $5 and up.
Is the Minus5 ICEBAR Open Right Now?
Right now YES! Unfortunately, that depends on when you’re reading this. Due to health concerns over COVID-19, various types of businesses, especially those that rely on social gathering, are occasionally closed down under government orders.
Fortunately, these shutdowns are temporary. When we are required to close our doors to the public, it’s only a matter of time before we’ll be allowed to open them again.
We’ll always keep the details about this posted on our website. So make sure you always check before you plan a trip to see us. Furthermore, know that these restrictions are subject to change based on the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in our state and county.
